Ever tried running mstsc.exe on Linux to connect to a Windows 11 PC with Entra ID and MFA? I did — and it sent me down a rabbit hole of COM errors, unsupported authentication methods, and a deeper understanding of why Microsoft’s modern RDP stack just doesn’t play well outside of Windows. The Lenovo ThinkCentre m53, initially incompatible with VMware vSphere ESXi, was adapted using custom drivers and a PowerShell script to create an ESXi-enabled ISO. This was then used to make a bootable USB drive. We got there in the end.
