AVG Update Manager is disabled

I had this problem today while at a clients, and I was a able to find a fairly simple fix and I wanted to share it on.

With various versions of AVG, but I experienced it with AVG Business Edition 2011.

When you open the console and you find that the Update Manager is disabled, try these steps.

  1. Delete the following files
    • C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataAVG8cfgupdate.cfg (On Windows XP / Server 2003)
    • C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataAVG8cfgsched.cfg (On Windows XP / Server 2003)
    • C:ProgramDataAvg10Cfgupdate.cfg (On Windows 7 / Server 2008)
    • C:ProgramDataAvg10Cfgsched.cfg (On Windows 7 / Server 2008)
  2. Restart either services or your computer and then force an update on the AVG.
If you cannot find the above files, try Showing Hidden Files and Folders (How to: http://bit.ly/iko6UH)
Once the update is complete, you should find that the Update Manage is enabled and working.
